Annie and Gretchen had the great fortune to interview Lori Corbin!
Lori Corbin has been well known as ABC7’s ‘food and fitness coach’ television reporter for over 20 years, the only reporter in news to have this beat. Lori has a BS in Nutrition and is a certified group fitness instructor and personal trainer. She is a member of American Council on Exercise and the American College of Sports Medicine. Prior to covering health and fitness on air, Lori owned and operated a chain of exercise studios and a low fat catering business, “The Food Coach”, where she worked with and helped slim down many people, including some well-known celebrities.
Lori shared some stories about her 20 years on air. She has had a blast teaching everybody about nutrition and fitness. She was the first reporter at KABC to film her own stories to do her own editing – as both the talent and the creative. She witnessed first hand how social media and technology changed the way people consumed the news.
While working with people she realized that people are often uncomfortable and frightened in front of the camera. After 20 years in front of the camera there are few people more qualified to teach people how to work in front of a camera. Lori has started a new chapter as a media mentor at her Malibu Studio and is working with people who have a project, plan or product and want to deliver it the best and most professional way they are able.
Lori’s advice for aging enthusiastically is to learn new things. Being happy is really important. Find things to do and a community. Be outside. It’s okay not to always have a plan every day. Read every day if you can.
